TRINELLE Parasuraman is the youngest volunteer at Mama Ntombi’s Community Projects and helps the team every Sunday afternoon to make sandwiches and juice which is served to the children at Jika Joe, Ezinketheni and Rawat Circle in Northdale, and assists in whatever way she can.

The seven-year-old is in Grade 2 at Ridge Primary School and said she likes to help out in any way because she wants to make the children happy.

“I want to see the poor children with happy faces.”

She spent her fourth birthday and her holidays at MNCP helping in its outreach programmes.

“I also packed my small clothes and gave them to MNCP so the children can have nice clothes to wear,” said Trinelle.

Her parents, Chris and Prabashnee, are also involved in the charity work.

Speaking to Maritzburg Fever, Chris said that Trinelle has a heart of compassion.

“It was her decision to get involved and her enthusiasm grew from there.

“She often comes home and tells us about the children she met. As parents we need to instil values in our children from a young age and create awareness about those less fortunate,” he said.

Sandra Pillay from MNCP said that Trinelle has shown great servant leadership qualities.

“She works with us almost every weekend and is always willing to help and give of herself.”

Prabashnee said they are very proud of their daughter. “She has set the bar for others to follow. I hope her story will encourage other children to get involved in charity work, not only at MNCP, but other organisations,” she said.

“When I grow up I want to sing with them [the children] and colour in and teach them stuff,” said Trinelle.
