A 12-YEAR-OLD Bellevue girl, who started playing squash in February 2016, has been invited by her coach to participate in the India Squash Development Tour in Mumbai next March.

Kaycl Pillay (12), a Grade 7 pupil at Longmarket Girls’ Primary, is one of 12 children in Pietermaritzburg who have been invited by Squash South Africa under Ravi’s Squash Academy.

They will compete against the Indian team from Mumbai.

Kaycl will travel with her mother, Keshnee Pillay.

She told the Maritzburg Fever she is very excited about the tour, especially since it will be the first time she is travelling out of the country.

“I am confident I will learn more skills from the Indian players. It is my first time participating in something as big as this. I hope to improve,” said Kaycl.

Keshnee said they are very proud of Kaycl’s achievement and that she is the only one in the family who plays squash.

“The children only train two days a week and she never misses a day.

“When I told her the news about the tour, she was thrilled as she will be doing something she loves.

“Since she started playing squash I have always supported her, but I never thought she would achieve success in such a short time,” said Keshnee.

“Although she also likes karate and swimming, her first love is squash,” said mom.
