FOOD explorers can journey through the down-to-earth and uncomplicated, yet deliciously exciting and varied cuisines of Spain at The Boardwalk’s Bayside Pantry in August.

On Wednesday nights, The Bayside Pantry will put on an extensive spread of titillating Spanish-inspired dishes, prepared using age-old cooking methods and ingredients used two or three hundred years ago, but with a contemporary twist.

Fresh and full of flavour, the Spanish-styled dishes include soups, tapas, paellas, hot pots and desserts. For starters there are authentic Spanish soups and refreshing salads, as well as cold fish dishes such as Esgarraet (grilled peppers, roll mops, garlic, olive oil, grilled tomato and onion). There is also a selection of cold tapas as well as fried treats such as Tortilla de Camarones (fried shrimp fritters) and Croquetas (potato croquettes with mushroom and spinach).

The flavours of Northern Spain are highlighted with a choice of seafood dishes and the carvery station is laden with succulent, Spanish-style meats. Perhaps one of the highlights of the buffet is the Hot Pots station, where diners can explore hearty Spanish casseroles and stews. There is also a chance to be creative at the Paella station where there is an overwhelming selection of ingredients to experiment with.

The pudding station is not to be missed.

The Spanish Buffet is available every Wednesday in August, from 6pm to 10pm. The cost is R149 per person. Booking is essential on 041 507 7793.
