Callies, Madibaz in title chase

2015-09-30 06:00

THE PEFA SCORE Energy League season has basically reached its end with the playing season ending the end of September.

The second Division was a closely contested league where 9 points separated the top 4 teams. The league winner was decided the very last round where PE City Bats eventually came out on top on 34 points.

Toshiba Old Grey Unicorns ended second on 32 points followed by Callies Colts in third position on 28 points and Hearts Tropics in fourth position on 25 points respectively.

The first Division League was a close contest where PE Home Rovers and Leeds United were constantly in touch with each other on the log. PE Home Rovers eventually clinched the league with 30 points and Leeds United ended second on 26 points.

PE Home Rovers have gained automatic promotion to the SCORE Energy Premier League. Runners Up Leeds United will do battle with premier league incumbent KwaDwesi Allstars on a home and away basis to see if they can take KwaDwesi’s place in the Premier League.

The SCORE Energy Premier league is a race between Callies and NMMU Madibaz. With load shedding and rain affected fixtures Madibaz still have 3 league fixtures to play and Callies have 1 fixture left, that against NMMU Madibaz.

The position between Callies and Madibaz is fairly close with Callies top of the log on 45 points and Madibaz lying second on 42 points. The league could possibly be decided on goal difference, but time will tell.

This coming weekend sees the finals of the SCORE Energy Cup being played on the Westbourne Oval on Saturday, October 3.

The first game of the day will be the second Div. final between Hearts Tropics and Toshiba Old Grey Unicorns at 1pm. This could be a close affair taking the league positions into consideration; however Unicorns could turn out the winners here.

The Premier Reserve final is set for 3pm where NMMU Madibaz will be tackling the winner of the Tuesday night (September 29) Semi-Final between Forresters and Toshiba Old Grey.

The first Division final is set for 5pm where Leeds United will face PE Home Rovers. These two teams were very close in the league and the one taking its chances on the day will have the bragging rights.

The SCORE Energy Premier league final is down for 7pm. Here the finalists will be decided on Tuesday night (September 29) where PE Defence tackle NMMU Madibaz and Callies tackle Central Acemates in the two semi-finals. Based on League positions it points to a Callies vs NMMU Madibaz final, but over the years Cup games have produced some interesting results
