Cape Recife Spring Fest this long weekend

THE Cape Recife Spring Festival will be held this long weekend to showcase the attractions offered by Cape Recife.

It will start on Thursday, September 24 (Heritage Day), with most events on Saturday, September 26, and then ending on Sunday, September 27.

Funds raised will go to the Cape Recife Conservancy and SAMREC (the South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre).

The following events are on the festival programme:

)September 24-27: Cobbles Classic Long Board Surfing at Cape Recife. Contact Ryan at 084 4006 894

)September 24: NFBTrail Run powered by MERRELL – Enjoy the 3,5km Fun Run with the family, tackle the 8,5km Trail Run or take up the challenge of the 20km Trail Relay. Great lucky draw prizes on offer as well as food and drink on sale at the finish. Entry: 3,5km (R45 per person); 8,5km (R55 per person) and 20km (R65 per person). Contact Dale at 082 415 4994.

)September 26: Annual Spring Plant Sale at Pine Lodge– Sale of indigenous plants suitable to the area, supported by the NMMU. Go green and support the indigenous plant sale at once-off prices while stocks last. Starts at 8am. Contact Craig at 082 536 8192.

)September 26: SAMREC Penguin Plod – registration for this annual 5km Fun Run opens from 8am at SAMREC, with the Plod starting at 9:30am. The route goes around the lighthouse and back along the beach. Water points en route, medals to all finishers and lots of lucky draw prizes. Entry R50 (adults) and R40 (children), which also entitles plodders to a free tour of SAMREC. Contact 041 583 1830.

)September 26: Artisan Market - Pop down to Pine Lodge between 9am and 3pm, we will have a variety of gourmet cuisine and variety of handmade crafts. Live music will be playing in our main tent with local craft beer available. Entrance to market day is free. Contact Justin at 084 625 6508

)September 26: Hobbiton Adventure Playground at Pine Lodge– Open from 9am to 3pm. The activity staff will be entertaining the kids with donkey rides and Ziplines, while the smaller kids can enjoy the play park where families can also enjoy a 9-hole putt-putt golf course. )September 27: Finals of the longboarding
