2015-10-14 06:00

IN support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Shoprite will be deploying CANSA Mobile Health Clinics to selected stores between October 7 and November 6.

The CANSA Mobile Health Clinics are equipped to offer a variety of services free-of-charge to both men and women, including:

•Clinical breast examinations and how to do self-breast examinations

•How to do testicular self-examinations

•Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA): a finger-prick blood test to help detect prostate abnormalities

•Pap smears: screening test for early diagnosis of cervical cancer

•Lifestyle risk assessments to assess your cancer risk

•Blood pressure and glucose testing

•Height and weight measurement for Body Mass Index to advise on maintaining a healthy weight

•Information on the cancer warning signs for adults and children

Early detection is vital in order to have a better chance of recovery.

“Ignorance and late diagnosis of cancer can lead to a poor diagnosis and/or response to treatment.

It’s also important to know what screening options are available to you, especially if you have a family history of cancer,” explained CANSA’s CEO, Elize Joubert.

The CANSA Mobile Health Clinics will be at Shoprite Bethelsdorp on November 6, from 8:30am to 2pm. – REPORTER
