GARDEN Gate Florist has paid tribute to one of its most dedicated employees, Doris Mralaza Mvela.

Doris, who started working at the company in 1984, worked her way up from cleaner to one of the best florists in Port Elizabeth.

After 34 years of cleaning, watering, cutting and eventually arranging flowers Doris retired at the end of August at the age of 60. She started her employment at Garden Gate Florist when the shop was still in old Main Street, North End and moved with them to their new premises at 89 Third Avenue, Newton Park.

Starting as a cleaner, she used to cut and change water for the flowers. As time passed by one of the employees, Rita, taught Doris how to arrange flowers. She honed this skill and specialised in posy and church arrangements. When they said farewell, staff at Garden Gate Florist proudly stated that Doris was one of the best florists ever.
