Madibaz back on top of the log

2015-08-12 06:00

WITH Callies having a bye, NMMU Madibaz made use of the opportunity to go back to the top of the SCORE Energy Premier League log last Friday night with a convincing 4-1 win over NMB Municipality at the Oval.

Madibaz got themselves into a winning position halfway through the first half with two quick field goals from Claudius Sagandira and Simamkhele Thobi.

Municipality tried hard to get back into the game in the second half, but Madibaz defence held and Diego van Rooyen and Chuma Mapuma added the third and fourth goals for Madiba. Municipality’s lone goal came from the penalty spot in the 81st minute of the game.

At the Old Grey Sports Club, Toshiba Old Grey kept up their challenge for league honours with a good 4-1 win over Warriors. Anele “Bullet” Mxoli opened the scoring for Old Grey after five minutes.

Within 20 minutes of Mxoli’s goal, Luvuyo “Pele” Bika helped himself to a goal after some sloppy defending by Warriors. A superb cross from the left saw John Gianakkis finishing it off to take Old Grey 3-0 nil up into the halftime break.

Old Grey dominated the second half and with a few minutes to go, “Pele” scored his second goal of the game.

Last Saturday out at Bridgemead, Forresters thumped a very young and inexperienced Highbury team 8-0. Kweila, by the time halftime arrived, had scored a hat- trick, with Tekko Gadlela weighing in with the first of his brace of goals in the game. Ace Gadlela scored from a well-taken free kick and Doc Mancam’s field goal took Forresters 6-0 up into the halftime break.

Forresters carried on with their goal- scoring spree, with Kweila hitting the back of the Highbury net for the fourth time and Tekko Gadlela getting his second goal in the match. PE Defence have made the EC Defence field their fortress, where they held high-flying Hearts to a goalless draw.

This draw probably spoiled Hearts’ chances of clinching the SCORE Energy Premier League title for the first time in their history.

On the Kemsley Park field, Central Acemates kept their good form with a hard- fought 2-1 win over Kwadwesi Allstars. The game was very evenly contested, with a 0-0 scoreline at halftime.

Indiphile Sodinga opened the scoring for Acemates halfway through the second half. In the 75th minute of the game, Khanyiso Bacela equalised for Kwadwesi, but Siyabonga Namba’s winner in the 86th minute ensured that Acemates walked away with three league points.
