TICKETS for South Africa’s first Slide The City, presented by Huisgenoot, YOU and DRUM in partnership with Nedbank are already on sale and adrenaline junkies and slide enthusiasts are advised to book early to be guaranteed a chance of experiencing the ride of their life.

A single slide costs R99 with tickets for three slides at R250 and the Super Slider pass offering unlimited access at R490. Tickets are sold in two-hour slots to avoid overcrowding.

Slide The City will visit seven cities around the country from December to February 2016 and host eight events in total.

Slide The City will be in Port Elizabeth on December 12 and 13 at Baakens Street.

Three blocks of city streets will be transformed into thrilling ride sites as participants use inflatables to skim at high speed down the huge 304-metre-long waterslide made of slippery, durable vinyl.

Food, music and fun activities will be on offer all along the way. As an official franchisee, the slide complies with the safety requirements and municipal regulations of each host city. Children must be taller than 1,2 metres to slide.

“This is the first time a slide of this size has been brought to Africa and we’re very excited to be the official and exclusive franchise holder of these events,” said Minette Ferreira, general manager of Weekly Magazines at Media24.

“What better way to have fun this summer than sliding through our wonderful cities! Slide The City has seen massive growth since it started in 2014 in the United States and we have no doubt it will be the same here in Africa.

“Slide the City is a one-of-a-kind experience that’s sure to be a highlight on the summer calendar in each of the host cities. The event affords us an opportunity to bring together families and residents from diverse communities and make the things that really matter happen,” says Vanessa Singh, executive head for retail and business banking marketing at Nedbank.

“We’re delighted to be part of this ground-breaking initiative. This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that’s set to rock South Africa, in particular the savviest who always seek to make the things that really matter in their livelihood happen. This initiative affords us an opportunity to bring together families, loved ones and residents from diverse communities into the major cities throughout the summer season.”

Singh said Slide The City supports Nedbank’s vision of sustainability and that the water used during this period will be conserved in consultation with the various host cities.
