Older Persons Forum needs assistance

2015-06-03 06:00

FOR many years the Northern Areas Older Persons Forum has been an entity that has the interests of senior citizens at heart.

The forum was started by the late community leader, William Bentley, who died late last year.

Chairperson Dawid Abrahams said that after Bentley’s death the forum and its activities had slowed down a little, but now they were ready to take it up a notch.

The Northern Areas Older Persons Forum has five areas of operation: administration and organisation; fundraising; advocacy and awareness; services to the elderly in the community and lobbying.

Abrahams said, “We want to invite people, especially retired persons, to join us and assist with voluntary work from time to time to assist the older persons.”

He added that input from young people with time and skills to offer would also be welcomed.

Chief George Maleiba, administrator, said the forum would hold an information session for all who were interested to attend.

The session will be at Age-In-Action in Springbok Street, Gelvandale, at 11am on Friday (June 5)
