TALKING F1 columnist Natalie le Clue has recently walked away with the gsport Woman In Media Print award - a national award which she also won in 2010.

The gsport initiative was founded in 2006 by sporting personality Kass Naidoo, to raise the profile of women’s sport and to encourage corporate backing of female athletes in SA.

How does it feel, knowing you are the Woman In Media Print award winner?

I feel incredibly honoured and humbled to have been awarded with the Woman In Media Print award. It’s a little bit wild to think that I have two gsport awards now.

What does this award mean to you?

It means a great deal to me to be recognised by gsport and the Sports and Recreation Department. However, I don’t think it means a great deal only to me but to everyone who has passion and is dedicated to sport. There are many aspiring writers, and sports journalists, who think the task too daunting to even attempt a go at it. gsport shows that if you are willing to work hard there are people who will stand behind you and support you in your passion. And that bit of motivation and inspiration is sometimes just the spark that someone needs.

What else have you won thus far?

I won the 2010 gsport Woman In Media award; in 2013 I was named by the Sports and Recreation Department and the Minister of Sport as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People In South African Sport.

What inspires your passion for Talking F1?

I am completely infatuated with Formula 1 racing, it is after all the greatest sport in the world. It is this passion that I want to share with other like-minded people and I am privileged to be able to do that through Talking F1.

What makes Talking F1 different?

Talking F1 is one of the few F1 columns if not the only, in our region, which encompasses every aspect of the sport.

What do you like the most about Talking F1?

The saddest thing is that there are many F1 fans who are not able to watch the sport that they love. Therefore, the thing I love most about Talking F1 is that I am able to provide a slice of this majestic world of Formula 1 to those who may not otherwise have access to it.

Tell us more about your acceptance speech and the Minister of Sports’ response?

What a curveball! I had no expectation of even winning much less to deliver an acceptance speech. It was important for me to recognise that I was in a really special moment and to thank Kass Naidoo for the advice she had given me quite a while ago. Similarly, I wanted to thank the Minister and his office for the incredible support they have invested in gsport. I also saw it as an opportunity to fly the motorsport flag and extended my hope to the Minister that he would, in future, provide similar support to motorsport in South Africa. He responded very positively afterward, giving me a high five and promising that “motorsport is coming.”

What does the future of Talking F1 hold?

A million more columns and unlimited word count! I’m not sure the boss will agree to that though. The writing of Talking F1 will always come from a place of great passion, that will never change. It is my great wish that it continues to be a resource for those who love the sport and that it remains part of the PE Express for years to come. We’re not far away from the magical ten years you know
