Top restaurants, foodies to headline first Taste of PE

2015-10-21 06:00

TASTE, the International Culinary Festival, has announced its first Port Elizabeth based event, Taste of PE, to take place at The Boardwalk Festival Lawns from November 6-8.

The festival will encompass an exposé of restaurants and producers from the Eastern Cape region, as well as winemakers and drinks offerings where visitors can look forward to a diversity of flavours and tantalizing tasters set against a backdrop of top entertainers to enjoy.

The Festival Lawns at The Boardwalk will be transformed into a foodie wonderland for three days of summer eating, drinking and entertainment.

The line-up of Port Elizabeth restaurants includes Colonial Kitchen, Kiplings Brasserie, Muse and Mella’s Dim Sum andamp; Noodle Bar to name a few.

The tantalizing food journey won’t stop there, as there will also be a plateful of local and national food producers showcasing their wares, including:

Chilladiddo

Developers of authentic, flavourful and versatile range of chilli products

The Little Herb Garden

A small farm-run business that manufactures products such as chilli sauces, piccalillis, mushroom mixes, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, chutneys and stuffed olives

Visitors are sure to have their taste buds tickled with a non-stop selection of the best in food and drink.

“We have gone out of our way to represent the culinary delights of the Eastern Cape region, ensuring this year’s event will be the start of an annual celebration that will become the most eagerly anticipated culinary occasion of the year,” said Taste Marketing Manager, Lucy Tully.

Operating much like a restaurant, these exquisite restaurants and producers will fashion special menus of starter-size dishes for the occasion which can be bought via the official festival currency – Crowns. One can expect signature dishes by chefs such as Chef Ananja from the Colonial Kitchen to specially reflect their individual food philosophy and showcase seasonal and premium ingredients.

There is also a line-up of top entertainers with muso’s, Joe van der Linden, Charlie Finch and Daniel Jay, as well as a Kids entertainment area so adults can roam while the kids have their own fun.

The Taste Festival will run over a period of three days, from Friday, November 6 to Sunday 8, with times varying every day. The Friday festival will operate from 6pm to 10pm; Saturday will have two time slots, from 12.30pm to 4.30pm and again from 6pm-10pm; Sunday will be open from 12pm to 5pm.

Paying in Crowns

As this is an international festival, the currency that will be accepted and used for food and drink purchases is crowns. The crowns can be pre-purchased with Premium or Taste Clubhouse tickets and can also be purchased using cash or credit card at the event from the Taste Bank or from roaming Crown Sellers dressed in pink. Each Crown is worth R5 and prices range from 4 to 8 crowns per dish and change will be offered in Crowns only.
