Urban Run entries open next week

2015-07-22 06:00

ONLINE entries for the 2015 Urban Run charity event hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) will be opening on Monday, July 27, ahead of the Urban Run festival which takes place at the Donkin Reserve on September 26 and 27.

The Urban Run is an exciting obstacle course of just under 10km which raises funds for those less fortunate than ourselves and unable to enjoy such events to the fullest. This year, proceeds from the Urban Run charity event will go to Cheshire Homes and Reach for a Dream.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run was established in 2011 with the assistance of the MBDA to highlight urban renewal in our city and to bring people back into the CBD.

The MBDA has been instrumental in rejuvenating the central area and participants in this year’s Urban Run will be taken through no fewer than 12 obstacles to highlight such changes in our beautiful city centre.

This year’s Urban Run will be combined with the all-new and exciting 2015 Inner City Enduro (ICE), managed and introduced by Mike Glover of Red Cherry Adventures. ICE comes to South Africa for the first time, having captured the imagination of the extreme enduro riders and fans alike around the world and is set to blow Port Elizabeth away on Saturday, September 26, from 3pm.

Like the Urban Run, which uses natural and man-made obstacles along the route, the ICE event will see 20 professional extreme enduro riders tackling the city, including three-time world champion David Knight.

This year, the organisers of the Urban Run are hoping to raise more than R200 000 for charity and are appealing for local companies to come on board and support the event.

Vendor and entertainment positions are also available over the Urban weekend, with information and application forms available on the website.

The last week of July will see discounted early bird entries being made available. See www.urbanrun.co.za for further information
