ON the night of February 1 the fire brigade spent four hours taking care of a fire across the road from our house, and I feel the need to extend a very warm thank you to them for their endless efforts.

Despite the hard work they were friendly and polite and when things were under control still entertained my son for a photograph.

From speaking to them I was shocked to find out what an astronomical amount of fires they have been dealing with, and I think perhaps they could do with some support and gratitude from the public.

Attached is a photograph with the fireman. I unfortunately did not get his name – the fire truck is rather loud!
