THE 26th Annual Walmer Park Baby of the Year competition has closed and the winners in each age category were announced this past Saturday at Walmer Park Shopping Centre.

The four judges had the very exciting yet extremely challenging task of selecting the top 40 finalists from all the photographic entries received.

The judges first had to judge all the photographs taken and select only 80 semi-finalists from all 600 entries. Each judge then voted on the semi-finalists’ photos and the 10 with the highest scores were chosen as the top 10 finalists in the age category.

The judging did not stop there. On Wednesday, October 4, the judges had the opportunity to meet all the cuties in a baby “interview”.

Here, the judges’ main criteria was to look for a baby that was healthy, alert and happy.

As a “feel good” element to the competition, Walmer Park Shopping Centre and Wild Heart Photography commits to support a local baby home. This year the beneficiary was Isithembiso Babies Home in Miramar, which provides a safe and loving family environment for abandoned and orphaned babies between birth and three years.

The top four winners and their runners-up were announced on Saturday, October 7.
