THE Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s (NMMU) Department of Music hosted the Charles Bryars Scholarship Concert on May 17 where eight finalists competed for the prestigious bursary.

Music teacher and humanitarian, Charles Bryars, bestowed a significant amount to the university which allows the Department of Music to allocate bursaries once a year to worthy students to further their studies in music.

The winners were announced after the concert. They are Mieke Struwig on the clarinet, Kirsti Limbert on the flute and Evan Perkins on the piano.

An amount of R40 000 was distributed among the finalists and winners.
