MUSLIM-OWNED Kwantu Private Game Reserve was recently announced as the winner in the Best Luxury Wildlife Resort category at the World Luxury Hotel Awards held in Qatar.

After the announcement of the World Luxury Hotel Awards earlier this month, Kwantu Private Game Reserve also won another international award for Best All Inclusive Resort at the Haute Grandeur Global Hotel Awards.

Kwantu CEO Shakir Jeeva said, “We have also maintained our international rankings in luxury hospitality as we have in previous years received two awards in 2010 and 2013 from World Luxury Hotel Awards.”

The World Luxury Hotel Awards is a recognised global organisation. With the inclusion of this month’s award, Kwantu Private Game Reserve has won three awards from the organisation.

The five-star game reserve, which is only about an hour’s drive away from Nelson Mandela Bay, was also listed as a finalist in the SANLAM Top Destination Awards 2016.

Kwantu is an alcohol-free resort, which could be described as a family holiday and breakaway destination spot. The resort welcomes people of all faiths and also caters for Muslim families.

The game reserve is home to the big five, abundant wildlife as well as a large number of over 200 different species of birds. In addition to Kwantu’s popular game drives, the resort offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

“For children, we have an outdoor play park, a children’s splash pool, and a farm animal interaction centre. There is an indoor entertainment and recreation centre too,” Jeeva said.

As part of Kwantu’s conservation and education programme, they have a predator educational and rehabilitation centre.

“One of my favourite chill-out spots is the library and reading section,” Jeeva said.

Kwantu Elephant Sanctuary is currently aligning itself with the transformation of the elephant tourism industry.

“As such, we have ceased our elephant rides at the Kwantu Elephant Sanctuary,” Jeeva said.

“We now offer elephant trekking excursions and educational activities which foster understanding and awareness.”

Jeeva added that guests will be able to visit the elephant sanctuary after the renovations, which they hope to complete by the end of January, 2017.
