The much sought-after Miss Mamelodi Sundowns crown for 2016 is now open for entries.

While the winner will receive the coveted title of Miss Mamelodi Sundowns, the pageant also has over R2 million in prizes for all the finalists. The event is open to all South African women between the ages of 18-25, and entries must be made between September 9 and 30.

The Miss Mamelodi Sundowns pageant has been running for six years and it has grown into one of the most sought-after titles in South Africa. Not only does it boast the largest prize package in the country, but many contestants compete in, and have won, the title of Miss SA. The winner will receive R200 000 and a new car, the 1st Princess collects R175 000, the 2nd Princess collects R150 000, and each of the two provincial winners is given R60 000.

“What makes Miss Mamelodi Sundowns so different from other pageants, is that we ensure that each of our nine provinces is represented in the final. There are beautiful South African woman in all corners of our country,” says Sizwe Nzimande.

The launch in 2015 of the online entry system has made submission much easier and more accessible. To accompany the online entry form and photographs, contestants must create and upload an entry video. Semi-finalists will be selected from these videos.

During October and November, the Miss Mamelodi Sundowns team will travel to all the provinces to meet the chosen semi-finalists. After a process of judging, two princess per province will be selected, who will then go through to the national final in December.

“But of course Miss Mamelodi Sundowns is about more than just beauty, it’s also about using soccer, a male-dominated platform, to empower women from across the country. Our nationwide search is about to begin, so we’re asking all young, courageous South African women: ‘Do you have what it takes to be the next Miss Mamelodi Sundowns?’”, says Nzimande.
