Free health screening in New Brighton on October 19

2016-10-12 06:00

THE Eastern Cape Department of Health will be offering free health screenings at the Daku Spar Centre in New Brighton on October 19 as part of the lead-up to the annual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer.

The fundraising walk is being held in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Health for the second year.

A province-wide awareness campaign includes free health screenings at malls in the major centres.

They include tests for hypertension, diabetes, prostate cancer, blood pressure, glucose levels, tuberculosis, blood cancer and breast cancer.

Information leaflets on health issues such as tuberculosis, family planning, cervical cancer and the dangers of smoking, drugs and alcohol are also distributed at the information kiosks.

“In 2015, around 1 000 people were screened throughout the province and the objective is to increase this number in 2016,” said Jennilee Peremore, public relations and corporate social investment manager at Algoa FM.

The free health screenings at the Daku Spar Centre will be on offer between 11am and 2pm on October 19.

The Big Walk for Cancer will take place on October 29 at the Boardwalk in Summerstrand.

Entry forms are available from Brian Bands in Cape Road, Total Sports stores in the Cleary Park Shopping Centre or the Baywest Mall and at Algoa FM. An online entry portal is also available on the Algoa FM website.

The entry fee for the 5km walk is R60 and entries close on October 26.
