NEXT Tuesday night’s Business Night Relay held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will see reigning champions Gamble Pharmacy looking to retain their unbeaten record in the men’s race.

Held on the last Tuesday evening of the month during winter, the Town Lodge Night Relay sees around 100 corporate and social running and walking teams tackling a 3.5km course within the stadium precinct in a unique format event to Port Elizabeth.

Stadium manager Mpho Mokonyama was full of praise for this unique event and is planning on being part of the MBDA team for next week.

“The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is all about the spirit of Ubuntu and is community orientated and events such as this Town Lodge Business Night Relay clearly display these,” said Mokonyama after the event.

“It was fantastic to witness local businesses supporting this initiative and we, as the stadium, are proud to be the host venue of the Business Night Relay and are looking forward to staging many of these in future.”

The Gamble Pharmacy five-man relay team won round one in a fast 58 minutes 34 seconds, with two of the SPAR DC teams chasing hard. SPAR’s Running Blitz and Running Storm teams finished second and third respectively in the men’s category while Gamble Pharmacy also won the mixed relay category from PKF 1 and Rooftop Productions Team Kickin.

In the women’s category it was the Woodridge Prep Ladies who proved too fast on the evening, winning in a time of 1 hour 23 minutes from Investec’s Blister Sister’s and the NOV Ladies.

In the walking category, the three-person team from Keiskamma Cycle Tours won the June event in a time of 1hr 15min ahead of HRG Rennies Travel and the Town Lodge Moonwalkers.

Over R20 000 in lucky draw prizes are up for grabs each month plus a R500 Caltex fuel voucher for the best dressed and most colourful participant.

Featured within the lucky draw prizes is a R1 000 cash prize, a R2 500 Puma running shoe voucher and a two-night stay for two people at one of the City Lodge Hotels Group outlets anywhere in the country.
