How long have you worked on the EP?

We wrote around 40 songs in preparation for this first EP. Recently a three-piece, we’ve had a lot of fun and put in a lot of hard work figuring out our new sound.

What is it called?

Form And Function, Part 1. Part 2 and Part 3 to follow soon, we’re back in studio in January for Part 2. (This is a three-part album/collection)

How many songs are on the EP?

What were the influences for the EP?

I think what you will hear on this EP is a bridge between our old sound as a four-piece and moving into some new sounds and more toward the direction we will be moving in. The Bauhaus movement had the mantra that ‘form follows function’, and having to re-think how to play as a three-piece we could identify with the movement, in starting with the bare essentials, re-defining roles, and building up around that again. Influence comes from the stages of life we’re all experiencing at present.

What would you say are some of your biggest achievements as a band?

I guess the goal posts are always shifting, but starting from getting our first song on radio to winning an MTV MAMA, there has been a number of really awesome moments on the journey and we are really grateful for everything that has come our way.

What is your favourite venue/city to perform? And why?

Other than PE, of course, we love the people of Pretoria, so that’s always a fun city to play. They just want to have a party and seem to just be waiting for you to give them permission to do so – which makes playing a show incredibly fun.

Have you ever performed in Port Elizabeth before? If so, how did you experience PE?

Yes we have! It was hot, sweaty and crowded – just the way we like it!

What advice would you give to fans/youngsters dreaming about being where you are today and being successful in general?

Ask other bands how they do things, stay humble, work hard, refine your art.

Who are your musical inspirations/idols?

So many to mention, we listen to a lot of music. Anything from jazz to hip hop to rock and pop. For me more recently I have been listening to the likes of James Blake, D’Angelo, and Jack Garratt to name a few.

Describe your music style…

Always hard to do, but generally alternative rock with a hint of pop.

  • The EP is the band’s first official release since the release of their debut album in 2013.

They will perform at The Bru Bar in Walmer on November 27 from 6pm. Tickets cost R100 per person and can be bought online from or at the door.
