Giving back in annual baby competition

2017-09-06 06:02

THIS coming weekend will mark the start of the 2017 Walmer Park Baby of the Year competition!

All eager parents, together with their smiling babies and toddlers, are invited to visit the Walmer Park Shopping Centre to have the cutest photos taken.

To enter this exciting competition and join in the spirit of showing off your bouncing bundle of joy, simply visit the in-centre studio set-up at the Edgars Court in Walmer Park Shopping Centre every weekend, from Friday to Sunday, from 10am to 2pm, until October 1.

The charming in-centre studio is operated by professional photographers Heather Stevens and Carmen Alldred from Wild Heart Photography where your tot’s winning smile will be captured. All parents will receive two jumbo sized photos once the competition has come to a close. Photographs will be displayed at the in-centre studio for the duration of the competition.

The age categories for the competition are zero to six months, seven to 12 months, 13 to 18 months and 19 to 24 months. All the ages are based on the baby’s age on the date of entry.

The top 10 finalists from each age category will be chosen, from which the top three will be announced at a fun-filled prize-giving event, hosted by Algoa FM’s Briony Sparg.

Fantastic prizes will be awarded to all 40 finalists, winners and runners-up, proudly sponsored by Bargain Books, Dischem, Cherubs, Kodak Express, Dischem, Edgars, Toddlers Workshop, Execuspecs, Baby Builders, Dulce Café, Baby Gym, Francarlo Designer Goldsmith, Wild Heart Photography, Rain Created for Living and Medela.

The cost per entry is R50, of which R5 is donated to Isithembiso Babies Home.

Deveda Bloem, marketing manager of Walmer Park Shopping Centre, said, “Each year, as part of the ‘feel good’ element of the competition, we strive to assist a babies home in our city.

“This year we have committed to support Isithembiso Babies Home in Miramar.”

Isithembiso Babies Home officially opened its doors on November 1, 2005, and has been caring for abused and abandoned babies for the past 12 years. Isithembiso is a place of safety for children between the ages of zero and three years who have been abandoned, abused, neglected or orphaned.

They work hand in hand with social services to find these children new families or to reunite them with biological family according to their individual cases.

In the past two years, they have been aiming toward expanding Isithembiso, either by opening another safe home or opening a cluster home, which is a permanent place for children to live who cannot find a home.

The organisation relies solely on the donations of individuals and businesses to run from month to month.

To become involved or find out more about Isithembiso, visit their website at www.isithembiso.org.

You know that your tot is the cutest, so don’t delay in entering the Walmer Park Shopping Centre Baby of the Year 2017.

Only colour photographs, taken by Wild Heart Photography at the in-centre studio, will be eligible for entry to the competition.

Parents can collect their baby’s photographs from Kodak Express Walmer Park from October 11 and not before.
