HUNDREDS of community members and parents of players braved the rainy weather conditions when the Goal Desire Netball Club held its annual awards function during their 20th anniversary to honour its outstanding players at Motherwell NU 10 on Saturday.

Festivities included performances by cultural group Amaphikankani Ngengoma from KwaNdokwenza, Motherwell NU 10 Sarafina and soloist Nomthandazo Ngula to entertain the audience.

The guest speaker, ANC ward 56 councillor Mambulu Mgcokoca, stated that sport is a proper tool to develop the youth.

Mgcokoca said, “Sport is one of the tools that help our children refrain from abusing drugs and alcohol. I want to commend Goal Desire Netball Club president and head coach Ntomboxolo Limani for being avid in the development of the youth through sport.

“Limani dedicates most of her time to community youth sport development. I see an agent of change in Limani. Players must take sport seriously. This club must knock on my office door when they need any assistance.”

Limani stated that her club was established as Goal Desires FC on August 3, 1997.

Limani said, “I decided that I should make a change for this club during its 20th anniversary.

“Being unemployed, I had to dig deep into my pockets because I want my players to know that I support them.

“Today the club is called Goal Desire Netball Club, which is one of the Nelson Mandela Bay’s top sides.

“This team does not disappoint us as they keep on taking honours every season. I am very proud of this club. I regard them as my own sisters.

“They put this club on the map. I want to thank the parents of these players for being supportive to them.”

Afterwards, Limani presented a big trophy to the club before cutting the big cake to mark Goal Desire’s 20th anniversary.

Limani’s mother, Evelyn Limani, thanked all the parents of the players for allowing their children to play for Goal Desire.

Gogo Limani also commended her daughter, Ntomboxolo, for being a community builder. She said that she regarded the Goal Desire players as her own children.
