THE inconvenience caused by the short gravel road linking Chalons Avenue and Macon Road in Lorraine, will soon be a thing of the past.

Upgrades on the gravel road started recently and will take about 22 days to complete.

The gravel road, which is covered with potholes and gathers water when it rains, posing a possible danger for cars, has been a grievance to Lorraine residents for years.

“I have received literally hundreds of requests from the community to do something about this problem because motorists are struggling to get in and out of Lorraine, especially during peak times,” said ward 8 councillor, Gustav Rautenbach.

“After battling for almost four years, I finally managed to get the ball rolling to get this piece of road tarred,” he added.

The upgrades, which cost about R280 000, also created job opportunities for locals, including women.

“This is the first time I have been able to help empower women and we are very proud to have two ladies on our team working as flag holders,” the councillor said.

Motorists can look out for signs showing a detour at the site.
