THE Walmer Park Baby of the Year competition for 2017 will officially kick off on Friday, September 8, and will run for four weeks before finishing off with a final prize-giving on October 7.

Calling moms, dads and all the gorgeous babies to enter the original Baby of the Year competition as it celebrates 26 years of the cutest tots at Walmer Park.

To enter your bundle of joy simply visit the Walmer Park Shopping Centre in-centre studio, located in the Edgars Court on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from September 8 to October 1 between 10am and 2pm, where you will complete your entry form and have your baby’s photograph taken by the new baby competition photography team – the vibrant Wild Heart Photography.

“We are excited to announce that this year we welcome the young, fun and energetic mom and daughter team to the Walmer Park Baby of the Year competition,” said Deveda Bloem, marketing manager at Walmer Park Shopping Centre.

Wild Heart Photography is made up of mother and well-known wedding photographer, Heather Stevens and daughter, Carmen Alldred. These two fun-filled, family- loving women with a passion for love, life and adventure will be adding their special touch to the competition this year!

Entry to the competition is R50, of which R5 is donated to Isithembiso Babies Home. All photographs of the entries received will be on display in the centre for the duration of the competition.

The age categories for the competition are zero to six months, seven to 12 months, 13 to 18 months and 19 to 24 months. The ages are based on the baby’s age on the date of entry.

The top 10 of the “sweetest” finalists per age category will be chosen by a panel of judges, made up of key sponsors, media partners and centre management.

This selection will take place on October 2, after which the top 40 finalists’ photographs will be published in the PE Express on October 4.

Each of the 40 finalists, together with their parents, need to be available for a short meet-and-greet with the judges on October 4. Specific times will be arranged with the parents.

Thereafter, the top three entrants per age category will be announced at the final prize giving on October 7 at 10am in the Walmer Park Shopping Centre’s Centre Court Area where they will be awarded their titles and prizes. Winners not present at the prize-giving at 10am will be disqualified.

All of the top 40 babies and parents stand the chance of winning prizes from competition sponsors, Bargain Books, Dischem, Cherubs, Kodak Express, Dischem, Edgars, Toddlers Workshop, Execuspecs, Baby Builders, Dulce Café, Baby Gym, Francarlo Designer Goldsmith, Wild Heart Photography, Rain Created for Living and Medela.

Only colour photographs, taken by Wild Heart Photography at the in-centre studio, will be eligible for entry to the competition.

Parents can collect their baby’s photographs from Kodak Express Walmer Park from October 11.
