LEGENDARY group the Jordan Dwellers will be celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.

The group was established on February 11, 1987, by four young men with a passion for singing gospel. These men realised that singing was a powerful tool to reach and motivate the youth.

Today, one of the founding members, Freddy Rademeyer, is still part of the group. Three members have since passed away.

“Although the group is 30 years old, we are still actively involved in the community. We assist various institutions such as schools, crèches and churches by performing at their fundraising events,” said group spokesperson George Davids.

He explained that the group has several events lined up to celebrate their 30th anniversary. These include a 30th Celebration Gospel Show with various groups and solo artists on May 7 at the West End Community Centre at 6pm.

Other events that will be held through the course of the year include a gala dinner on July 1, a CD launch on September 2, a high tea, family fun day, an Aids Day event, and a 30th Christmas Celebration.

“There are also a few churches and the Cheshire Home Cleary Park that already booked us for their fundraising events during the year. We do this for a small fee which are mainly utilised to maintain our equipment which have been in use for over 13 years. We would appreciate any donations to help us make this 30th celebration a memorable one,” Davids said.
