YOUNG Brothers, who are affectionately called Kubo by supporters, were crowned Zwide Football Association (Zwifa) First Division champions after they played to a goalless draw against Hungry Lions at the Gal City Grounds on Saturday.

Kubo came to the game having one hand on the trophy, so the draw was good enough for the KwaZakhele side to lift the most prestigious trophy. Lions, who were leading the pack for quite a long time, finished second on the final log standings.

Brothers and AmaHarari, as Lions are known by their supporters, are promoted to the Zwifa Ntando Tours and Transport Premier League. Morning Stars and Young Killers, who had a torrid time in the Zwifa Ntando Tours and Transport Premier League, failed to maintain their status and as a result they qualify to campaign in the Zwifa First Division next season.

Following their 14-2 loss to Everton, Bay Tigers shared a 1-1 draw with Shining Stars’ B team. Both sides played an enthralling game that stole the show right from the word go.

It was clear that each outfit came well prepared for the clash. Although each coach wanted to finish the league season with a win, the result was a true reflection of the game of two halves. – SELBY MADIKANE
