PORT Elizabeth born, Noni Mbete (26), who has a passion for motivational speaking, encouraging young women and giving back to the community, is one of the semi-finalists in the Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa pageant.

Noni, who resides in Walmer with her husband, Zukile Mbete, and two children, Mbali (17) and Amile (18 months), said her decision to partake in this journey is to grow as a young married woman from a small city.

“This is an empowering programme for married women across South Africa. I have been part of this journey for just over a month now. In this short period of time, my life has changed immensely,” Noni said.

She is a business manager in finance and insurance at Tavcor Suzuki, and when she is not crunching numbers, she enjoys dancing, working out, date night with her husband and heart-to-heart conversations with young women.

“I want to encourage young women to work hard and be successful. I would love the platform to talk to young women about the power of being a woman, the power of self-love and acceptance,” she said.

Noni added that she is thrilled about being a semi-finalist as it has already exposed her to great opportunities to give back to the community.

“Teenage pregnancy, women and child abuse are my main areas of focus; they are but a fraction of the socio-economic problems our country currently has.

“I am excited to know that I stand a great chance to make a change in the lives of young people. I have shared my knowledge and uplifted the young people I am directly exposed to, as they say ‘charity begins at home’,” she said, adding that she wants to spread knowledge and awareness.

“I want this hunger for change to multiply. I want to be known as a powerful motivational speaker and as the young lady who did not just promise change but changed the thinking of young people to afford them a better quality of life. I want to help others realize that every day we get up, God has given us another chance to make a change.”

The crowning of Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa will be held in October
this year at the Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg.
