Local musician releases 100th album at the age of 77

PORT Elizabeth resident, Warren de Klerk, made history this past December when he released his 100th music album.

De Klerk (77) discovered his love and passion for music at the tender age of nine and has never looked back.

“I simply cannot imagine my life without music,” he said.

Over the years, De Klerk has had the opportunity to play his music at various functions, including weddings, funerals, birthday parties, corporate functions and modelling shows.

He also shared his music with others during two seasons spent on a cruise ship.

De Klerk is absolutely thrilled to have achieved his goal of 100 albums.

“In December 2012, I had the pleasure of recording my fiftieth CD, and now, four years later and at the age of 77, I get to enjoy the thrill of producing my one hundredth CD Album.”

By his count, his 100 albums released to date amount to about 2200 songs from any and all music genres.

He has a love for all kinds of music, from country to jazz to Latin American and even classical music. His favourite genre, though, is gospel which is the kind of music his latest album is comprised of.

“My one hundredth CD album has been achieved only through God’s great mercy and grace and the main purpose of this CD is to lift up the name of Jesus and to bring praise and glory to him through various gospel songs,” De Klerk said.

The most amazing thing of all is that even after creating 100 albums, he has never sold a single one.

“I have had the joy and pleasure of giving hundreds of CDs away with one goal in mind: to bless someone with the Word of God.”

He has donated 100 copies of his latest album to friends and colleagues, especially those who assisted him in achieving his goal of 100 CDs.

“So many friends, family and church members have supported me throughout my musical career and I shall forever be grateful to them for both their inspiration and support.”

De Klerk does not plan on stopping with only 100 albums, though.

“I guess I will have to start working on my next CD and I pray that God will continue to bless me with all aspects of good health so that I in turn may continue to bring glory and honour to him through the musical talent that he has given me.”
