HUNDREDS of Mamelodi Sundowns supporters braved the chilly, rainy weather to gather at the Masiphathisane High School in Motherwell NU 1 on Saturday.

The atmosphere was electrifying as the ecstatic supporters blew vuvuzelas and local hip-hop artist Lulama “Stamza” Mtati kept the audience entertained.

The Combined Methodist Church’s Rev. Bongani Sicwebu, who delivered the keynote address, said the church should not be divorced from sport.

Sicwebu stated that the church and sport built a person spiritually, mentally, physically and psychologically.

“Sport and church instil morals in the human being. Sport and church keep the youth off the street,” he said.

“We are happy to see the Mamelodi Sundowns Motherwell Supporters’ Branch.

“Each supporter must bring one person to join this branch.

“The new supporter must also bring a new supporter and so on.

“I appeal to the management of Mamelodi Sundowns to form youth academies here in Nelson Mandela Bay and also in the entire province so that when they play here the stadiums will be full up to their rafters.”

Mamelodi Sundowns Chloorkop national officials Daisy Kgopa and Cedric Moela, who were in attendance, registered many supporters, who immediately received their membership cards. Provincial and PE Branch supporters’ branches were also in attendance.

Motherwell Supporters’ Branch’s Rev. Banele Chris Mente said they had decided to form their branch because many supporters had requested it.

Mente said, “We urged our PE Branch to allow us to form the Motherwell Branch because there are a lot of supporters in this township and at Kamvelihle and Wesley Estates.

“We were given the green light to form our branch by the PE branch office. Despite numerous challenges I am happy to announce that we have the Mamelodi Sundowns Supporters’ Motherwell Leading Committee. We want to make Motherwell yellow and green and also conquer all branches of the big teams.”

The Mamelodi Sundowns Supporters’ Motherwell Leading Committee comprises the following members:

Chairman-Rev. Banele Chris Mente; Deputy-Chairman Dumisani Mandla; Secretary- Lulamile Ruu Mzayiya; Vice-Secretary- Lubabalo Poswayo; Organiser- Nosiphiwo ‘Nozi’ Sandi- Sandi-Nofeleti; Treasurer- Thobela Dekeda; Additional Members- Landile Ngcolomba and Ongezwa Ptso-Dingela.
