Come muck around next month

Parents love to hate it, but the Eastern Cape’s dirtiest race is heading this way and already the excitement is starting to fill Port Elizabeth. The Edge Muck run takes place at Bushpig Adventures on Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24, and offers something for the whole family.

Time for kids to get active and have the best fun ever and time for the adults to let their hair down and become a kid all over again.

With a 5km obstacle run and a 2km version for children 12 years and under, this event is achievable for everyone. Come run, walk, crawl, slide and roll around in the mud as you tackle half a dozen or more exciting obstacles. Due to the demand, a 5km event is offered on the Saturday afternoon and again on the Sunday morning, while the kids’ 2km version takes place on the Saturday afternoon.

The Edge Muck Run has also teamed up with the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth Sunrise to collect all unwanted clothing, bedding and blankets ahead of the winter. If you can assist, please bring all your unwanted goods with you on race day or you can drop them off in the Rotary Sunrise clothing box at participating Caltex fuel stations in Port Elizabeth.

Awesome hamper prizes from Woodlands Dairy for the best dressed and lots of fun for all with the Castle Lite beer garden and the First Choice Kids Zone available before, during and after the event, with plenty of food also available.

See for further information and online registration. The Edge Muck Run entries are limited so register soonest to avoid disappointment.

Kids rule aQuellé ocean series

With just one more race day remaining in the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series for season XI, it’s the kids who are having the most fun on alternate Sunday mornings. Ranging from two to 12 years, the kids are packing the beach for the Kids 1km beach run/walk and they are loving it.

On Sunday at Round 9, it was six-year-old Apele Mpati and four-year-old Emily Black who won the six years and under age group, while Jayson Archibald and Medan Owen, both eight years old, winning the seven- to nine-year age group. Jeandre Hattingh and Abbie Mitchell won the nine- to 10-year age group while Connor Mitchell and Bella Archibald took gold in the 11 to 12 years.

In the blustery off-shore conditions things were tough in the cold sea, but this didn’t stop Amy Mardon and Cole Craig recording wins in the 1km swim.

Linda Basson and Graeme Renard won the 2km swim, while Rebecca Newman and Dylan Smith got the golds for the 3km swim.

Maritza Craig and Grobbie Grobler won the 5km Beach Walk, while Tara Sacke and Antonio Seconds won the 5km Beach Run.

The Series finale for season XI takes place on Sunday, April 3, and will be followed by the overall series prize-giving function at News Cafe between 11am and 1pm.

See for full results from Sunday morning.
