Train tickets go on sale

2016-08-10 06:00

THE much anticipated spectator train tickets for the Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race on October 2 went on sale this week.

The Train Race is a unique Man vs Machine relay race between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage Stations for teams of five runners and one MTB rider.

The Metrorail train that races the teams is filled with 700 spectators who travel along the route with a fun stop-over at Redhouse Station where the Redhouse Benevolent Society welcome all the passengers with breakfast and coffee on sale.

The train leaves Port Elizabeth Station at 9am on race day and returns from Uitenhage Station at 1.30pm (immediately after the prize giving ceremony). On offer for spectators this year are company-sponsored coaches and 400 public tickets on the train. Companies are able to sponsor a coach for the race which ensures that they can brand the coach as they see fit and also receive all 60 passenger tickets for that coach for staff and guests.

Passenger tickets for the train are just R60 each and are expected to sell out well before the event on October 2.

Tickets can be purchased online (www.TrainRace.co.za) or from the Zsports Offices at North End Lake, Sydenham. Companies keen to secure a coach should contact 041 484 7860.

Urban run excitement rising

As entries flood in for the 2016 Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run, hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency, the excitement is rising for the much anticipated charity obstacle race through the CBD on Saturday, September 10, and Sunday, September 11.

All funds raised from the adult Urban Run will go towards assisting the Cleary Estate Cheshire Home in the Northern suburbs whilst the proceeds from the Kids’ Urban Run go to the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

All entrants in the Urban Run are required to raise R100 or more for charity. Full details available on the website www.UrbanRun.co.za.

The Kids Urban Run, open to children between the ages of 6 to 12 years (with a guardian required to run with those 10 years and under) will offer a course of between 2km to 3km whilst the Adult Urban Run (those 13 years and older) will cover a historic 7km-8km of the heart of the old Port Elizabeth CBD with 15 plus obstacles along the way.
