EVER wanted to try your hand at competing in a triathlon? Well this December is your greatest opportunity as the 2016 About IT Triathlon Summer Series hits town for 3 races before heading to Port St Francis for a 4th and final race in the Series.

The shortest competitive triathlon distance available is the Sprint Distance which comprises a 750m swim, 20km Cycle and 5km Run. So whether this is your first attempt at a triathlon or if you’re training for the Ironman 70.3 or full Ironman, come and join the Series this December for some great training.

Port Elizabeth races will all be starting at Pollok Beach with races on this Sunday (13th), Wednesday 16th and Sunday, 20th. To keep things exciting the organisers have promised that each race day course will be different throughout the Series. Round 1 on Sunday will see the 5km run route taking participants through the very scenic Humewood Golf Course whilst the cycle is an out and back course along Marine Drive.

Wednesday 16th Triathlon is the annual ‘Pollok to Schoenies’ Triathlon which sees the 750m swim at Pollok Beach, the 20km cycle to the Sacramento Cannon in Schoenies and the 5km run being along the Sacramento Trail. Organisers collect all participants’ race kit and ensure that same is waiting for them in the transition area at Schoenies before their arrival on the bike. A chauffeur system is also offered for those wanting to get their cars from Pollok Beach to Schoenmakerskop.

An introductory triathlon is also being offered to children between the ages of 8 years to 14 years at Pollok Beach on the evening before each race, starting at 6pm.

For further information on how to get involved in the About IT Triathlon Summer Series see www.TriSummerSeries.co.za. Online entry fees are not only discounted but also come with a complimentary silicone swim cap. Registration is a once-off process with online entry covering your first race day irrespective of which of the 4 race days this will be, so that you are able to secure your Series number soonest.

Newman and Kingston claim first ORS titles

Rebecca Newman (3km swim) and Liza Kingston (2km swim) claimed their first aQuellé Ocean Racing Series titles for Season XI in very bumpy and testing sea conditions caused by the Easterly Winds which have lashed the Bay since Thursday last week.

Not only did the swimmers have to try to negotiate the rough seas with strong rip currents but they also had to contend with bluebottles.

Despite the conditions, over 300 participants took part in Round 5 on Sunday morning, the final ORS race for 2015. Ian Venter and Tracy Gous won the 1km Ocean Swim, Daniel Jones and Kingston the 2km swim whilst Wayne Jones and Newman took the 3km titles.

In the 5km Beach Run it was Julia Pringle and Johnny Muller whilst Martiza Craig and Grobbie Grobler won the 5km Beach Walk in the morning.

The aQuellé Ocean Racing Series will return for Round 6 on Sunday, January 10, and concludes with Round 9 on Sunday, April 3. See www.oceanracingseries.com for full results and Series information.
