THE balcony of Port Elizabeth, the Donkin Reserve, will come alive this weekend with an Urban Festival of activity, hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA).

The annual festival, which includes the popular Urban Run charity obstacle race, will kick off with a two-hour aerobics marathon managed by Metro Gym.

This taebo/boot camp style outdoor class is free for anyone that wants to join in with a free T-shirt and drinks available.

It will be followed by an aikido martial arts demonstration, while there will be drone racing from 10am on the lower Donkin.

Saturday afternoon will see the Paw Patrol characters attending ahead of the 3pm start to the 15km urban mountain bike race and the 3km kids urban run obstacle for children aged six to 14.

There will be prizes for the best dressed, winners’ trophies and finishers’ medals for all up for grabs.

Sunday morning will kick off with entertainment from Gino Fabbri at 8am ahead of the best dressed competition and the featured Urban Run 8km obstacle run at 9am.

No late entries will be accepted on the day and all participants are required to raise a minimum of R100 for Cleary Estate Cheshire Home and Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer.

The top three charity fundraisers, best dressed individual and fastest runners will receive prizes. The run route offers a combination of historic landmarks and recent urban renewals, starting and finishing at Donkin Reserve.

A great selection of food vendors, a Castle Lite beer garden and the About IT Rotary kids zone managed by the Rotary Club of PE Sunrise, where children can be left to enjoy an array of inflatable equipment, will form part of the festival.
