YOUNG Ideas seemed to have run out of ideas when they succumbed 1-0 to Mthatha City in their ABC Motsepe League home game at the Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.

Ideas kept knocking on City’s door from the outset. Ideas striker Chris Vana was nearly rewarded with a goal, but City’s goalkeeper, Mzamo Mfanyana, was equal to the task as he fisted over the striker’s thunderous shot.

Lelethu Mini tested Mfanyana with a long- range volley, which he parried over the posts. The first half ended in a goalless draw, with the home side promising to break the deadlock.

City skipper Lungelo Msomi, who had a quiet first half, was effective in the second half. Msomi decided to play along the left flank. He was brought down by Ideas’ right fullback Thembelani Tshisa.

Msomi took the free kick himself, which Ideas goalkeeper Anathi Mbovane fisted to City’s attacking midfielder Tristan Cox, who headed home his side’s winning goal.

The Ideas players did not play as a cohesive team, but rather as individuals.

Skipper Aphiwe Skhoko Mambuku tried to put his side together, but City’s central defender Ayren Bond kept things tight at the last line of defence.

Another Nelson Mandela Bay side, Morning Stars, also went down, 1-0 to Tornado FC at Zwide Stadium on Friday evening.

Callies and Lion City maintained their unbeaten run after they beat Walter Sisulu 1-0 and Highbury 1-0 respectively.

Matta Milan lost 2-1 to Future Tigers in Butterworth, while SUBS suffered a 4-0 away loss to EC Bees at the Bisho Stadium.

The Matatiele Professionals defeated the Mighty Bucks 1-0.
