AT the tender age of four, Jaydique Holland already played in the U/9 division for his soccer club and now this talented footballer is on his way to the football mecca of Barcelona.

Jaydique (8), from Gelvandale, plays for the Glenville soccer club where he received a trophy for Best Player two years in a row.

The young lad, who currently plays for the U/11 team, has been invited to attend the 2018 Barcelona Youth Soccer Cup competition, which takes place in March next year.

He is not only a soccer star but also excels academically at his primary school, Alpha Primary, where he is in Grade 3.

“We are a soccer-crazy family and we are very excited about this opportunity for Jaydique,” said his mother, Izanne Scheepers.

“The only thing that would stand in his way would be if we were not able to raise the funds needed.

“It is a daunting task and we are hopeful that we can make it happen.”

Jaydique would need approximately R25 600 to join the group of 130 players, officials, coaches and referees in Spain.

His granny, Stephanie Holland, reckons soccer is in his blood, while his uncle and grandfather were excellent soccer players.

“Glenville is extremely good with the junior players and the club has produced players such as Daine Klate and Elrio van Heerden. There really is talent in Beverley Hills (Gelvandale),” Holland said.

Some of the fundraising efforts include Jaydique’s mom and granny selling koeksisters and milktarts.

They are also planning a golden oldies dance and a high tea and are urging the community to support these events.

The family is hosting a cash bingo event on Saturday, October 28 at the Toynbee Club in Kobus Road at 2pm.
