Two men were arrested on Wednesday last week after robbing a woman of her cellphone.

Lansdowne police spokesperson Captain Alan Manuel says the robbery occurred at about 13:00 when the 32-year-old woman was walking down Imam Haroon Road in Rondebosch East.

“On the bridge towards the Claremont area, two men passed her. They grabbed her and after she tried to fight them off they took her cellphone,” Manuel says.

He adds members of the neighbourhood watch broadcast the incident on the neighbourhood watch chat site. “One suspect was arrested by members of the neighbourhood watch who directed security to the M5 with a description of the second suspect. He was arrested and the police found him in possession of the stolen cellphone,” Manuel says.

Two Tanzanian nationals, aged 23 and 25, were arrested. They appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday last week.

“The Lansdowne police applaud the neighbourhood watches for their commitment in fighting crime,” Manuel adds
