Three Rocklands men were arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm and stolen property.

Officers of the Mitchell’s Plain police station were performing crime prevention duties in Commorant Street on Monday night last week, says police spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Williams.

“[The officers] spotted a man who tried to hide a parcel that he was carrying when he saw the police. The man then walked away from the parcel towards a nearby vehicle with two occupants. When the police questioned him and took him to where he had left the parcel they discovered a black 9mm Browning short firearm, one magazine and one cartridge inside the plastic bag,” says Williams.

A check on the vehicle revealed that it had been stolen and a case was opened for it in Brackenfell in June.

“A 33-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm was stolen in Ceres during June 2010. He and the two other men also face a charge of possession of stolen property. The two other suspects are aged 24 and 25,” he says
