A 43-year-old man was shot and killed in Manenberg on Thursday last week just after 19:30.

Manenberg police spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Bennett says the victim was called outside before he was shot.

“It is alleged by eyewitnesses that the victim was called outside of his home in Manenberg Avenue by three men on bicycles. He went outside to see who it was,” Bennett explains.

Gunshots were heard and residents found the man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.

“Family members rushed him to hospital where he died of his injuries. The perpetrators fled on their bicycles in an unknown direction,” he says.

A case of murder was opened for investigation. No arrests have yet been made in this case..

In another incident on Friday at 14:10 a 41-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition while police members were busy with patrols in the Manenberg area.

“Manenberg police members were patrolling Seine Road. They noticed the suspect acting very nervously when he saw the marked SAPS vehicle driving towards him,” Bennett says.

He adds police members then followed the suspect after he turned and walked away.

“One police member got out and the suspect started running. The suspect was cornered at the back of the residence where he ran in. He tried throwing the firearm away but SAPS members apprehended him,” Bennett confirms.
