The City of Cape Town’s Metro Police Department arrested 91 suspects in the last week for drunk driving, possession of drugs and other transgressions.

Senior Superintendent Zelda Martin, Metro police spokesperson says some of the successes included two men arrested for the possession of 33 parcels of dagga during a routine vehicle check on Old Mamre Road in Atlantis on Saturday (26 August).

On Thursday 24 August, officers arrested three men in Kensington for possession of drugs and a zip gun.

“In Athlone, officers arrested a 35-year-old man for possession of drugs after following up complaints that people were filling up on a different kind of fuel at a local filling station. The drug seller managed to get away, but his customer was caught red-handed after officers moved in once the transaction had been completed.”

Martin says that on Tuesday 22 August, the Metro Police Camera Response Unit received a tip off on the whereabouts of a smash-and-grab suspect in Langa. Officers tracked down the 22-year-old suspect and found in his possession a knife, four spark plug pieces and an imitation firearm.

“Cape Town Traffic arrested 18 suspects during a roadblock in Atlantis on Thursday and issued 1 175 fines for various transgressions in an enforcement operation on the N2, Nelson Mandela Boulevard and Hospital Bend.”
