Adventure films on show at Cavendish

The annual Banff Mountain Film Festival world tour comes to South Africa this month, bringing with it films of adventures by ski, bike, ropes and on rock and water.

The world tour visits 44 countries to bring a selection of films on exploration, adventure, culture, environment and mountains to growing audiences.

Eleven award-winning and audience-nominated world tour films, selected from hundreds of submissions, will be shown at each screening in South Africa. These films range in duration from the intense-action, two-minute kayaking video Into the ditch to the 37-minute documentary And then we swam, winner of the Best Exploration and Adventure Film category.

Danny MacAskill is up to his mountain biking feats again in Danny

MacAskill – The Ridge, Rush Sturges kayaks in an urban environment in Into the ditch and Alex Honnold climbs desert towers in Sufferfest 2.

Audiences will also treated to the screening of an additional five-minute film: The winning submission from the Cape Union Mart Adventure Film Challenge. This annual competition encourages local filmmakers and athletes to capture our outdoor culture. V

The films will be shown at Ster-Kinekor’s Tygervalley and Cavendish cinemas from Friday 23 to Saturday 31 October. Shows start at 20:00 and all 11 films are shown at each screening. Tickets are available at the cinemas or online at Visit for more information.
