At least a car a day stolen in Lansdowne

2015-08-18 06:01

The Lansdowne policing precinct is currently seeing a spike in the theft of cars. This spike has been happening since March this year.

According to Lansdowne police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka police reports reflect that at least one car gets stolen in the precinct daily.

“The most problematic places are the entertainment places, night clubs, the train station and also business premises – in the parking areas. Mostly old cars are targeted, such as Toyotas, Isuzus, Volkswagens, Mazdas, Fords and Nissans,” Mnyaka says.

Lansdowne police station commander Colonel Jan Alexander urges all entertainment places and businesses to strengthen their security in their premises and parking area.

“Some parking areas have car guards and it is not understandable how the vehicles go missing under the watch of the car guards. We call upon the business owners to have car guards profiled or checked at the police station.”
