Backpacks for kids

2015-05-05 06:00

Pupils from Ottery Road Primary School attending the Soetwater Environmental Education Centre in Kommetjie were the first recipients to make use of the 40 backpacks donated by the Rotary Club of Newlands.

The centre’s programme is based on an approach of environmental education through fun and adventure. Colin Burke, president-elect of the Rotary Club, says the centre endeavours to foster self-respect, personal growth and appreciation for nature, all key values that resonate with those of Rotary.

Lappies Labuschagne, manager at the centre, says: “We appreciate all the support we receive. These 40 backpacks will be put to great use during the field trips and will be a great reminder of the lessons learnt during the three-day programme.”

Thousands of pupils visit this registered NGO centre yearly.
