Compare shebeen to apples

Why is it that liquor must be blamed for people who cannot be responsible drinkers (“Being poor is no excuse for crime”, People’s Post, 28 July)?

Any person who is responsible for domestic violence and child abuse, that person must be held accountable for his/her actions.

The victim is the only one who can stop the abuse.

The police are not present when the abuse is taking place. When they come it’s sometimes too late for our victims and if they come, they look for witnesses.

Yes, being poor is no excuse for crime.

How can you provide for your right to life with no income; you have to steal or rob to survive.

At least if you go to jail you know you get three meals a day. How else is the police going to earn their salary if no crime is committed?

Shebeeners who want to make a living are no different from a man who sells apples on the street. But who is arrested and who is robbing whom?

You will never know the pain of poverty; you must first be in it before you can feel our pain.

The police themselves are in the most abusive structure, excluding those members who have human dignity and respect their fellow human beings.

If we want respect, we need to earn it, and get our house in order before we talk about something that we do not understand

How much food do you need to concentrate?

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
