A Gardens student is heading to New York to represent Cape Town.

Tshegofatso Mogotsi-Phetlhe – currently a marketing and advertising communications student at Red andamp; Yellow marketing school – has been selected as the Cape Town representative for this year’s Art Directors Club Portfolio Night.

Portfolio Night, which brings together thousands of advertising industry youngsters, hundreds of creative directors and dozens of agencies from around the world, sees the young creatives pitch their portfolios to directors from leading ad agencies.

This is the second year running that a student from the school has been selected as the All Star at the Cape Town Portfolio Night – last year, it was Mogotsi-Phetlhe’s fellow student Grethe Meissner.

Her prize is a trip to the global All Stars event in New York, where she’ll join All Stars from around the world to work on a brand campaign. Mogotsi-Phetlhe will also have an opportunity to meet some of the world’s top advertising executives.

The Art Directors Club pays for the All Stars to gather for a week in New York.

Mogotsi-Phetlhe, who graduated from the Art Direction and Graphic Design Course last year, says: “I’m looking forward to representing our country. What a journey – I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Mogotsi-Phetlhe was one of about 40 advertising and design students from various schools at Portfolio Night Cape Town, organised on behalf of the Art Directors Club.

The students each had a 15-minute speed date with three creative directors on the night. They were scored on, among other things, ideas, crafting and attitude
