A once-famous vaudevillian team attempt to revive their show one last time in The sunshine boys.

Presented by the Fish Hoek Dramatic Society, the production opens at Muizenberg’s Masque Theatre on Friday.

Written by one of the world’s most prolific comedy playwrights, Neil Simon, The sunshine boys tells the story of Al Lewis and Willie Clark who have grown to hate each other over their 43-year career together. The duo has now been convinced to revive their performance, but this means that the two cantankerous old men first have to actually stand in the same room as each other and then start speaking to each other again.

The lead roles in this production are played by Brian de Kock and Aubrey Hindle. De Kock was recently seen in Quartet, for which he received a Cata nomination. Hindle is also a regular at the Masque and directed Inspector Drake and the Black Widow.

Popular Masque actress Erika Marais is back again as part of this talented cast after her performance in House Guest earlier this year.

Masque stalwart Jane Cohen and newcomers Julia Lloyd and Alex Silberbauer complete the cast.

This popular comedy marks the directorial debut of Nigel Stevenson, who is well-known as a regular both onstage and backstage at the Masque. V

The sunshine boys runs Thursdays to Saturdays until Saturday 12 September. Call 021 788 1898 during office hours or email bookings@masquetheatre.co.za to book. Visit the masquetheatre page on Facebook for more information
