While other areas still ring with gunfire, a fragile peace has been restored in Lentegeur.

Following sporadic shootings and gang tensions, members of the local community police forum, assisted by police, set out to hold peace talks to calm tensions.

Lentegeur police station commander Colonel Elizabeth Hermanus says the talks were successful.

“Due to sporadic incidents of gang violence between the Sexy Boys and the Fancy Boys in Lentegeur the members of the different factions were brought to the police station for questioning,” she says.

During the questioning the groupings also decided to cease the gang conflict amongst them, she adds.

The decision, however, was not influenced by police and parties reached this decision on their own terms.

Although there were several shootings and incidents throughout the area, none of the parties were arrested.

“None of those present could be linked to the gang violence and were therefore not detained. After the questioning they went their different ways,” says Hermanus.
