Jewels robbed in Vangate Mall

2015-05-12 06:00

Another store in Vangate Mall was hit by a group of brazen robbers last week.

Three men wlaked into a jewellery store on Wednesday last week at about noon, says Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman.

“A 59-year-old woman was in the shop when three men entered the shop. The men pretended to be interested in purchasing goods when one of the suspects pointed a gun at her,” she says.

The one suspect then pushed the shop attendant into the back room of the shop while the other two men jumped over the counter to where the jewellery is kept. They managed to take gold rings and a gold necklace.

The value of the goods stolen are unknown at this stage. The man who led the assistant to the back room also assaulted her by kicking her in the face and chest.

The three men then left the store. No shots were fired and no arrests have been made.

A case of business robbery has been opened for further investigation.
