Local donations help locally

2015-10-13 06:00

Fundraising by the Green Point and Oranje-Kloof City Improvement Districts (GP/OKCID) this past winter has benefited two local organisations.

The first R1000 raised was donated to Bread4Life on Kloof Street. This soup kitchen feeds more 400 people every week.

A further R2000 was raised, which was used to buy 20 pairs of school shoes for children at Salesians Institute in Green Point. This organisation is working to change the lives of vulnerable children and youth at risk through education, social support, life skills and vocational training.

Commenting on the campaign, GP/OKCID chief executive Marc Truss says: “We’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who supported the campaign – handing over the funds raised was a humbling and very special experience, and the photos speak for themselves in terms of the gratitude expressed by Bread4Life and Salesians.”

The idea behind the three-month campaign was to motivate people to support their communities in a responsible way. This was made possible by partnering with SnapScan, so that residents and business owners could make small donations via the app.

The GP/OKCID plans to raise a further R10 000 with which to provide a new pair of school shoes to all of the children at Salesians. V
