Madame Zingara Grand(er)

2015-05-12 06:00

One of the City’s most iconic venues, the Grand Parade, is set to see a burst of glitz and glamour when the Madame Zingara Company hosts its 16th birthday celebrations there.

The entertainment company will rent half the parking area from early next month to host its shows.

“We would like to assure residents that only the section hired by the applicant will be fenced off for their show,” says Garreth Bloor, mayoral committee member for tourism, events and economic development.

The trading area will not be affected and will continue to operate as normal, after a successful negotiation with the Grand Parade Traders Association.

“We welcome the anticipated increase in visitor numbers and the knock-on economic benefits to our informal trading sector based on the Grand Parade,” Bloor says.

The Grand Parade recently received a facelift of R1m and was fitted with 21 high-mast energy-saving lights to improve public safety.

“The City supports the tourism value of this event that will potentially attract many visitors to the city to enjoy this show,” Bloor says. “The ripple effect by way of job creation and the increased visitor spending in the city, coupled with the need for local associated services that benefit directly from these events, are all a welcome injection into the local economy.”
